WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A UCLA student was robbed of her cell phone early Friday morning while walking in Westwood.

The robbery took place just before 3 a.m. in the 500 block Gayley Avenue near Strathmore Drive, the UCLA Police Department said.

The suspect, described as a black man between 20 and 30 years old with a buzz cut, approached the female victim and grabbed her cell phone.

“There was a brief tug of war over the phone before the suspect snatched the phone from the victim’s hand and fled toward Strathmore,” police said in a statement.

The suspect, who was between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, was wearing a while collared long sleeve shirt, baggy jeans and red high-top sneakers at the time of the robbery.

Anyone with information should contact the UCLA Police Department at (310) 794-5824.

Friday’s incident is the most recent in string of crimes committed against UCLA students since January that include a robbery, sexual assault and a knife threat.
